What To Do In Melbourne During Winter Months

Even though winter can be dull and there are fewer events in winter than during summer months, it seems that Melbourne always has something to offer. If you happen to visit Melbourne during June, July or August, there will be plenty of events to visit.

In addition to visiting restaurants, theatres, cinemas and museums, there are also plenty of annual events to attend during winter season, and in this article we bring you some of them.


Jazz lovers will enjoy Melbourne in June, because this is when Melbourne International Jazz Festival is held. The festival was founded in 1988 and it has hosted many famous jazz musicians from all over the world ever since. The event takes place on several locations in Melbourne and it is held from 3 to 12 June.


Food lovers will also enjoy Melbourne during winter months, as there is a fantastic festival that celebrates good food and wines. Melbourne Good Food & Wine Festival is held from 3 to 5 June, and the visitors can try a variety of great food, wines, craft beers and ciders. There are also many classes, presentations, shows and performances in addition to the food and drink. Although this festival lasts only three days, it is packed with events and it definitely offers something for everyone.

Film and animation

Two interesting events are held in Melbourne for those who enjoy films and animation. Animation Festival is held from 19 to 26 June and it takes place on several locations. It offers plenty of animated films and installations on various topics and from different authors. There is also a kids’ program, so you can take your young ones to the festival as well.

The period from 28 July to 14 August is reserved for Melbourne International Film Festival. It offers a rich choice of films for people of all tastes and preferences. Titles from Cannes Film Festival are displayed, together with film premiers, documentaries, local features and short films.


Mind Body Spirit Festival is held in several Australian cities throughout the year, and it takes place in Melbourne two times a year – once from 10 to 13 June and then from 18 to 20 November. This unique festival has a great offer for all those who pursue a healthy lifestyle. You will be able to find a wide choice of healthy, raw, gluten-free and plant-based food, together with books to learn about healthy eating and living.
